Child sexual abuse is a public health problem but is treated primarily as a criminal justice problem.

Also, she describes specific prevention efforts being developed and evaluated at the Moore Cente. Elizabeth will describe her partnership with Fr. Hans Zollner on the Prevention Research Steering Group, Child Dignity Alliance; Fr. Zollner is at the Pontifical Gregorian University; he is on the Vatican’s Commission on CSA and both of them, along with a 3rd colleague, have a program of prevention research on a global level that they are trying to get funded.

Topic: Healing the Ravaged Soul
Sue Magrath is a retired mental health professional, currently working as a spiritual director and workshop and retreat leader. She received her Master of Counseling degree from Arizona State University in 1996 and practiced psychotherapy in Phoenix, Arizona for fourteen years, primarily as an interfaith pastoral counselor. It was through her work with survivors of child sexual abuse that she became aware of the deep spiritual struggles of survivors. Their stories gave birth to her book, Healing the Ravaged Soul. She attended the Upper Room’s two-year Academy for Spiritual Formation as well as Source at the Center, a training program for spiritual directors in Orange, CA. Both of these programs were foundational in giving her the ability to navigate the thorny theological issues that are at the heart of this book.
